Be Willing To Look Foolish
Fear of Looking Foolish in Public?I do. I’m working on it though. It all started in public school when we had to write speeches...
Read moreAs Father’s Day approaches, our hearts turn to the men who have played important roles in our lives. Just as God nurtures and guides us, earthly fathers are called to provide guidance, support, and spiritual nourishment to their children. Whether it’s our biological fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, or father figures, Father’s Day is a special occasion to honor and appreciate the love, guidance, and sacrifices they have made.
There’s still time to find that special gift for Dad, and keeping in mind that most of us are keeping tabs on our finances these days we’ve found some awesome gift ideas that don’t cost a penny! Showing love and appreciation with simple acts of love and kindness can go a long way this Father’s Day. Here are five no cost ways we can serve Dad with joy this Father’s Day this year.
Bless Dad this year by giving him the day off to do whatever he wants. That means no chores! No grilling on the BBQ, no mowing the lawn and no car pool duties . When he returns from his favourite activity that day be there to serve him for the rest of the day. Your father is well-deserving of a joyful day off, so make sure that his favourite treats are all stocked up and ready for him to enjoy as well!
Add a special touch to Dad’s day off by creating a playlist of his favourite songs to listen to as he lounges in the backyard. If he loves watching TV consider queuing up his favourite movies to play as he winds down for the evening. Choose some family favourites that you can watch together! Your father will appreciate the effort you’ve made into bringing back special memories that those songs and movies evoke and he’ll enjoy the quality time spent with family.
On the flipside, give Dad some time alone to gather his thoughts and rest in the peace and quiet of solitude. Surprise him with a coupon for time alone that he can use at his convenience (it doesn’t have to be on Father’s Day). This is where the rest of the family takes care of errands away from home or goes for a walk in the park, perhaps. Having time to meditate and focus on the present has proven health benefits that encourage us to be more creative and patient - skills that help to manage stress.
Do you love a good story? Have the family write up a bunch of questions they’d like to ask Dad and place them into a jar. Having each question on a separate piece of paper is best. Choose coloured paper for a festive feel! Ask him to take one out at a time and have him share the joyful memories associated with each question. Here are some examples:
- How did you and Mom first meet?
- What were you thinking when you knew you were going to be a father?
- What is an unfulfilled wish that you still have?
- What is the story of your first car?
- Did you ever get into trouble at school?
Homemade cards are the most cherished gifts a parent can receive. The thoughtfulness and effort it takes to make this unique and genuine token means more than buying a generic card watered down for the masses. Writing a heartfelt note of appreciation or sharing what you’ve learned from Dad over the years will truly touch his heart. If writing isn’t your forte, record a video for him instead!
As you’ve been reading, the theme for Father’s Day gifts this year is joyful service, and as we serve Dad this year we are also reminded that God loves us and wants the best for us - to fully grow into who He wants us to become. We can do this by giving glory to God and honouring Him. The gift of being a father is sacred gift, and as we celebrate earthly fatherhood, may we also deepen our understanding of the divine love of our Heavenly Father, whose unwavering presence sustains us through every season of life. Happy Father’s Day!
